Many Business Owners know that a very important and crucial key to expanding and growing and sustaining your business is “innovation”. Innovation is important because whilst your business is moving at a certain pace, the world is moving at an even quicker pace.
It is important to keep up, change, and come up with new up to date ideas.
Most business owners that we have come across are serious about growth but clueless about innovation. They are fixed in their ways, and don’t like to step out of their comfort zones. Some business owners however, are ready to take the step but are not sure how to do it.
The first step is recognising that you need to innovate. This can help you build the business you imagined with an up to date approach that will help you grow.
#1 Experiment
Most people are wary of change and experimentation as they fear the risk of failure. But it’s important to understand that failures are precursors to success. When you accept that failure is part and parcel of the learning process, it goes a long way in helping you become comfortable with the concept and then in turn be able to achieve your objectives and goals.
The key lies is conducting experiments that are small enough not to shake-up your business and impact it severely, if things go south. Your effort in creating an environment that’s conducive to experimentation will be successful only when you have a robust feedback loop in place. This helps ensure you have the information needed to replicate the things that worked and produce something extremely remarkable.
#2 Generate Ideas
Innovation always starts with a small idea. The only way to exponentially increase the odds of creating winning ideas for your business is to focus on quality rather than quantity. Not every idea will transform into something great.
However, when you have a treasure-chest of thoughts and ideas to choose, it helps you refine and hone your understanding of what your customers expect of you. Work hard to weave idea generation into your marketing strategy. Always encourage team members to put forth their suggestions and have a system in place to catalogue everything that’s presented.
#3 Diversify
As mentioned earlier, it’s important to step outside your comfort zone. Assimilate new experiences both professionally and personally. While you focus on building a dynamic team, seek out talent to promote, market and expose your new ideas. The skills and expanded frame of reference you obtain will keep your innovative train going.
Whilst these are good ideas, you need to be open to and welcome criticism. If you want to improve the effectiveness of your ideas, you need to encourage people to tear them down. This is one of the best ways to produce a much better offering/product than you ever could have managed alone.
If you have recognised the importance of innovation and want to make it a norm in your business, you’ve got to strive hard to create the ideal environment. Your employees need to be open to change and should be willing to embrace the diversity of opinion and experience to build a more solid business.
