Donald John Trump is an American businessman and investor, TV personality & author. He is the chairman & president of – The Trump Organization and has founded the Trump Entertainment Resorts. His role on The Apprentice, the NBC reality show has made him a global celebrity.
Donald Trump was born on 14 June 1946, in Queens, NY. He was the 4th of the 5 children of Frederick C. & Mary MacLeod Trump. Donald’s father was a builder and a real estate developer. He specialised in constructing & operating middle-income apartments located in Staten Island, Brooklyn and Queens.
The Early Years
Donald Trump was a very energetic and assertive child. His parents hoped that military school would help channel his energies in a more positive manner and at age 13, he was sent to the New York Military Academy. He did very well academically & socially; rose to be a student leader and star athlete and graduated from there in 1964.
He first studied at Fordham University & then at University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School of Finance. He graduated from there with a degree in economics in 1968. By 1971, Donald Trump started living in Manhattan; this was where he networked with a number of influential people. He knew that the city provided a significant economic opportunity and became involved in many large-scale building projects.
Public Recognition
He used attractive architectural designs in his projects and before long, began earning high profits and won public recognition. By the 1980’s he had established himself as one of the city’s most powerful landlords. He owned a number of glass towers at very exclusive addresses, 2 casinos as well as the Trump Shuttle airline. But the recession hit in the 1990’s and Donald Trump could not pay his bank loan of $2 billion. His creditors seized most of his assets; but like the proverbial phoenix, he rose from the ashes and fought his way back to wealth. This also inspired him to write a book- ‘The Art of the Comeback’.
The Upward Climb
Even today, Trump’s fortune is on an upward climb, thanks to upscale properties such as Trump Tower and 40 Wall Street in New York & the Doral golf resort located in Miami. His brand acquires more sheen with every passing year with “Apprentice” appearances, speaking engagements, books, Miss USA and Miss Universe pageants as well as menswear at Macy’s. In addition, he is a perennial presidential contender.
