In the cutthroat world of SEO, ranking well takes both time and effort. However, there are a few SEO techniques you as a business owner can easily implement to bring some results. The best part is you can probably implement all of these techniques by yourself.
Before you undertake the task you can always perform an audit. This isn’t the easiest thing to do, especially if you have a large website, but it will assist you to prioritise your techniques in order to save time on what to do first.
Depending on your website’s situation, one of the following three SEO techniques will be a more efficient task to undertake first.
#1 Optimise Your Headings and Titles
Clients often pay big money for SEO services. However, things like basic optimisation such as title optimisation and keyword research aren’t performed. This being said, the title tag carries the most value when it comes to search engine optimisation, so ensure that you have a keyword in the title.
The closer the most important keyword is to the beginning of the title tag, the better. Once you have done this, you need to add the correct keywords into your heading sections, too. The H1 is the most valuable heading in the content so it should be the first thing you see when you visit the page. It’s often the same as the title, but it doesn’t always to be.
If you are running a PPC campaign, you can gain inspiration from the titles there. People often say that PPC titles don’t work so well for SEO, but in actuality the PPC titles have a focus on conversion, which can benefit your SEO to a great extent.
It’s the same for meta descriptions. Ensure that you optimise your meta descriptions to convince people to follow your link. Ensure that you have the right keywords there as well, otherwise your page may not rank so well.
Once you understand this process, you can initiate targeting multiple keywords on the same page. Whilst this article doesn’t necessarily target multiple keywords, it could be said that the title is optimised for “Low Effort SEO Techniques”.
This is a good thing to do, as you can then begin to focus on writing larger pieces of content as opposed to many smaller ones, and Google thrives on longer pieces.
#2 Prioritise Pages for Your Site’s Navigation
In terms of structure elements on your site, navigation is the most important thing. Why? Because it’s the very first thing linking users to your other site’s pages and it usually at the very top of your site’s page, which gives it a lot of value.
You will often see websites have their most important keywords optimised in their navigation menu, with the links being found on every page of that particular website, something Google really loves and picks up on.
This is one of the reasons why the Homepage carries so much authority on all websites. It’s because, commonly, the logo on every site’s pages links back to it.
#3 Provide Your Pages with Breadcrumbs
By providing your page with breadcrumbs you can be adding a lot of value to it, especially if it’s an eCommerce site. This is because they can help add structure to your website. Most, if not all online shops, will have a link to their products from their category pages. This helps provide equity from the category pages to the product pages. This helps make these pages stronger which is, of course, a good thing.
However, you will want your category pages to rank well, as these are the pages optimised for keywords with the highest search volume. Breadcrumbs will help you consolidate the power of your category pages as you can link them toward your related products and subcategory pages.
