More and more people are looking to help other businesses and go down the path of coaching. The Business Coaching is booming, but not every coach is successful. Here are 7 attributes that I believe are really important for you to become a successful business coach.
#1 Consistency
If you want to be great in anything, consistency’s is key. This is especially important when it comes to coaching. When you’re working with an individual over an extended period of time you want to make sure you are consistent in your approach. If you want to be a successful business coach, your clients are going to be leaning on you and expect to get consistent results from you.
#2 Empathy
One major attribute that I see in a lot of successful business coaches is that they are empathetic. They are able to show empathy and walk a mile in the client’s shoes. There’s going to be times where your clients are going through a rough patch, sometimes personally, sometimes in business, and it’s very easy as a coach just to be that hard task master and get your client to push through. It’s important though to be able to relate to your clients.
#3 Accountability
To be successful, you need to be accountable for your own actions and what happens in your business and life. This is because you are the driver and you need to be able to show your clients that you are congruent in the way that you operate.
#4 Ownership
This attribute is similar to accountability; however it focusses more on taking ownership of whatever happens in your client coach relationship. I think it’s important as a successful business coach to own your results. Whether good or whether bad. I quite often find that people will own things when they’re going really, well. They’ll take ownership over amazing and fantastic results, but when things aren’t going their way, they’ll look for other outside factors to blame or the economy or fuel prices etc. As a successful business coach, it’s important that you take ownership for what’s going on in your business, take ownership for what’s going on around you and take ownership for the relationships that you are in.
#5 Passionate
Being passionate goes without saying. If you want to be a successful at anything it’s important to show passion and that your clients and your team and the people around you can really sense that passion. In fact, you should love it so much that you don’t have an on-off switch.
#6 Drive
You may have good intentions to do the right thing however, it can get tough if you or your client aren’t getting any results. You may then get a bit frustrated because you they don’t want to work with you, or you aren’t able to find more clients. You can find it hard to stay motivated, but you need to be really driven in this industry. You need to stay focused, and be goal orientated. Fight for your clients rights first.
#7 Focus
Stay focused on our client’s goals. There is a saying: Focus on the Mission, not the Commission. I know it can be difficult, especially in the start-up phase. You are more focussed on getting clients and on your own goals. As a business coach, if you want to be successful and you want that success to be radiated, it’ll happen through the success of your clients.
