The idea of becoming an entrepreneur and starting your own business is exciting. It brings you independence to be your own boss and freedom to explore your passion. In addition, it can also bring you pain and frustration.
The path to becoming a successful entrepreneur has its twists and turns, however, it is definitely a journey many start-ups and business owners go through to achieve their goals and dreams. No one else really cares whether you succeed or not. You need to look inside yourself to gain the strength and gumption needed to go on. Being successful involves learning and who better to learn from than people who have already been there done that.
So my first tip for you today is finding someone that you can look up to and act as your mentor. This person will help you, motivate you and be by your side while you succeed.
#1 Finding your Guru
There are so many success stories out there. Richard Branson for one. He is one of the most successful entrepreneurs on the planet and practically owns everything. One of the many things he does to stay on top of things is Learning. You need to LEARN MORE TO EARN MORE. So why not learn from the best.
Whilst people like Richard can be someone you look up to, aspire to be like and use as a motivational Guru, you also need someone by your side to help you. Someone who knows what owning a business is all about, someone who can guide you and hold your hand whilst you becoming the leader and the entrepreneur you dreamed you would be. Find out more here.
#2 Finding your Inner Motivation
Henry Ford once said: “Whether you think you can, or think you can’t, you’re right”.
If you strongly believe that you can be a successful entrepreneur, it will happen. Find your inner motivation, the thing that makes you tick. Only a person who is motivated to get out there, think outside the box and take risks will succeed. It is this very attribute that can keep you going.
While you may have a mentor, friends and/or family members out there to motivate you to do better and overcome challenges, you are your biggest motivation. If you fail, try again because you only learn from your mistakes. Pick yourself up and keep going. Test and measure every strategy and celebrate the successes. Chuck the ones that don’t work out the window and move on. A lot of business owners want to make quick dollars and get demotivated when their strategies don’t work. Don’t let that happen to you.
#3 Discipline is Key
Waking up early in the morning and heading to your workplace isn’t probably what you envisioned yourself doing after you quit your 9-5 job (wasn’t that one of the reasons you left the employee life behind?).
When you choose to become an entrepreneur, a business owner, your own boss – you need to put in time and effort. Do the hard yards to build yourself up. Just because you own your own business doesn’t mean you get to slack off. You won’t succeed if you do.
Discipline – create a routine, something that gets you going and something that excites you when you get out of bed every morning. If you don’t enjoy what you are doing, you might as well go back to being someone else’s employee.
I will leave you here with two helpful hints: “Consistency” & “Managing yourself”
#4 Nothing’s Perfect
Have you tried and tried and tried and nothing worked! Welcome to the world of entrepreneurs. You are not alone and nothing in life or in the business world is perfect. The key to go on is “belief”.
Believe in yourself, and it will happen!
Every business owner who reaches out to us has failed at least 10 times before they come up with a strategy that works. You have to make mistakes because that’s what makes you stronger, better, more educated and determined. You learn and you move on.
Celebrate the small victories, take risks and believe that you will overcome them. Mindset is key here. You need to have the right attitude and the right mindset to get out there on your own. Believe in your ideas. Believe in your strategies, belief in yourself. There is a light at the end of the tunnel.
#5 Alliance
You don’t need to be alone! Surround yourself with successful entrepreneurs, a good team and other like-minded business owners and you will find the motivation you need to grow your business. Building a pool of partners is important. Other business owners who can help you grow by creating joint venture opportunities is a good place to start.
