In an age where our attention is harder than ever to grab video content has become a necessary marketing tool. This is supported by a recent study by hubspot, showing 54% of people prefer to see their favourite brands posting video content over any other content type. Further, showing big platforms such as Facebook are becoming increasingly video focused. With that being said here are some pointers on how to make sure you do your video marketing right.
#1 Grab their attention in the first 3 seconds
So, not only has technology made it hard to grab our attention but it has made it even harder to keep our attention. This makes getting the attention of your viewer within the first 3 seconds of your video a must. You can do this by many means such inspiring emotion, using shocking facts, etc. Whatever method you use, you will need to make sure you have your viewers glued to your content within 3 seconds or you will risk losing a significant amount very early.
#2 Optimise videos for mobile
YouTube has shown a 100% increase in mobile video viewing each year. This means you nee to make sure you video content is optimised to not only work but look fantastic on mobile devices. Ideally you will have content that works and looks great on all devices but if you are going to skimp out on anything, don’t let it be on mobile.
#3 Keep it snappy
Again, due only to a lack of attention and focus thank you to the rise of social media and other notifications. You will need to keep your video content short. People will quickly get distracted, so you want to get your point across in the fastest way possible. Not only will this mean people will be more likely to see all your content, but they will likely remember more of it.
#4 Inspire conversation
If you want your video to be effective, you want to inspire conversation. Whether you do this by posing a question, being a little risqué’ or simply building hype. You will find your results are significantly better this way. Not only does this drive up engagement resulting in more promotion of your video but also will likely lead to people tagging friends leading to more potential customers. Moreover, this acts as a huge form of social proof. When people see that people are liking and commenting on your content others will be much more likely to view it.
#5 Get your SEO right
Videos like all content need SEO optimised for the best success. With videos, this is generally your thumbnail, title, description and then tags. They should include relevant keywords that are repeated throughout your title, description and tags. You can easily find information online regarding how to pick your keywords and tags so I won’t cover that here. Other things you can do to boost SEO is to have the video embedded on sites and creating back links to your content on various trusted sites.
#6 Use subtitles
Notice how almost all video content on Facebook have subtitles ? There is a good reason for this. According to multiple sources 85% of videos on Facebook are viewed without sound. So of course, the only logical solution to this is to include subtitles in your video. This could greatly increase viewership and engagement and without them could mean you simply loose up to 85% of your viewers almost instantly.
