With the super busy lives that everyone leads today, many people find that no matter how hard and long they work, their productivity levels are not up to the mark and there’s always those few more things that have to be done. Sometimes people who have less to do also, find that they are not as productive as they would like to be. So, what is it that can be done differently to become more productive?
In most cases lack of productivity stems from poor time management, scheduling and organisation. This is exactly why you should be focusing on these aspects to get your productivity back on track. In this article we will help give you a variety of tips to increase your productive and tick off all of those tasks that are building up on your to do list.
Our 6 Productivity Tips
#1. Routine:
Create a plan for your day on the previous night. It need not be an elaborate one and you do not have to spend too much time on creating it. It could be something as simple as jotting down points on a notepad and sticking to that routine. If you start your day with a routine, you will find that you will be able to stick to the schedule the rest of the day too.
Try not to get onto the phone, laptop or tablet till you are done with your morning routine. If you let them, work and personal emails and social media can take up your entire day. Just ensure that all mobile devices are either switched-off or are on silent.
#2. Calendar:
The influx of mobile phones has made calendars redundant. It’s not like they aren’t available any longer, and getting one made of paper, for your study table at home or your desk at work will not really impact the environment in any way. So, do the smart thing and get a calendar. Find one with larger spaces/ boxes for each day and make a note of all the important activities on it in legible handwriting.
It acts as a visual reminder and helps you keep your day on track. If you do not have a desk job, you can set reminders on your phone to keep you going at the right pace without missing out on important things.
#3. Keep Distractions at Bay:
This is important and while many think that you work best with the music or TV playing in the background, simply turn it off. You will find that you are able to focus on the job at hand, in a much better way. There is a time and place for everything and using audio and video devices while you are working hampers productivity.
#4. Time Increments:
When you are working, work in increment if your work permits you to do so. Take a breather of a few seconds/minutes after every half an hour. You can get up from your chair, stretch, get yourself a cup of coffee, or anything else. Just break the monotony…
#5. Do not Chase Perfection:
This does not mean you have to be sloppy with your work. It simply means that you should not be obsessed with trying to get everything perfect, every single time. Simply chip away just a little bit at the things you have to do maintain a good pace in your work and follow a routine and very soon you will find that what you are doing is close to perfection without really trying very hard to get it that way and you will not be wasting precious time trying to get it right.
#6. Plan Ahead:
This is very important; those tasks that you factor into your schedule should be well-planned. Do look at the schedule that you drew out for yourself and keep checking back against it to ensure that you are sticking to it. Though the main plan for the day should be made the previous night, you can always add to it in case you have too.
Maintain Consistency
When you are looking to improve your productivity, make sure that you are not stressing yourself too much to get it right. Just be consistent with the things you do, do not try to take on more work than you can handle. That can only have a negative impact and do not stretch every workday, it will lead to a burnout.
